what to bring on your backpack? (a geek guide)

If you’re like me, who feel uneasy when leaving home without your favorite gadgets and tools there are some “must bring” item on your list. Here’s some suggestion:

1. Mandatory Items

• a notebook (paper) and a good pen
  When a hacker is offline and need to code they usually use a paper to write the source code and when they finally have access to computer they now just write the code and compile it. And it’s good when you need to write something, so you can reference it later.
• Some sort of external memory
  As the advancement in manufacturing technology, memory getting cheaper each day. When I was 3th grade I remember my favorite external memory was 5 1/4 inch floppy disk which can only hold 1.2MB of data, and 10 years later I can easily buy 4GB Flash Disk for only $10 and as small as my toe nail.
  Back to the point, having external memory is always useful. You can bring your data and favorite software (even OS) whenever you go, make sure you don’t lose it tough.
• Food, Water and your medicine
  Coding takes lots of energy, so make sure you give what your body enough food. And if you sick also make sure you have your medicine handy. Especially true for who has Asthma, it’s pretty panicking watching people can’t breath.

2. Optional Item

• a laptop
  Altough this is not necessary, it always nice to have one. There’re many advantage having a laptop then it’s desk counterparts; and since the emerging of wireless technology since a decade ago, you can easily spot a cafe with free hotspot. And not to forget you can ditch that paper and coding or write on your laptop instead. YAY!
• Cash
  a wise man once said “money is not everything, but money can buy everything”. So bring you wallet just incase you need your money; and no credit card or debit card, they’re Okay but when electricity goes out or the machine goes offline or Skynet from Terminator has taken the internet your credit card is merely just fancy plastic card.
